Finding An Architect

    • 12 October 2023

Whether you have been thinking about extending your current home for a while, or have recently purchased a new house or plot and are not sure where to start, then speaking to an architect is the first step.

An architect can add value to the project not only in the initial designs, but in guiding you through the process with experience, navigating the statutory processes on your behalf and setting the project up for a seamless transition to the construction stage.

A good relationship with your architect is key to a smooth running project, and it is important that clients feel that they can trust their architect with something as personal as your home, knowing they will listen. A building project can take over a year from concept to completion and you need to take the time to find the right practice to work with from the outset.

At Fineline Architects, either Chris or Katie take the lead on each project and become your main contact, so from the start you know that your project will be safely in the hands of an ARB/RIBA Chartered Architect.

We see the process as a collaboration, truly understanding what our clients are really looking for and developing the design to bring all the crucial details together. Every project is bespoke to the site and the homeowners requirements for how you like to live in your house and spend your day. Clients are guided in all of their decisions on the project by the Fineline team to ensure that value is added to the design at every stage. The most rewarding aspect of working in residential architecture is really transforming a client's home so that it changes the way they live each day for the better.

Gable House - Client Review

“We have recently completed a knock-down rebuild project on our family home with Fineline Architects. We are absolutely thrilled with the project and cannot recommend them highly enough. Their professional and personal qualities have been absolutely outstanding throughout this multi-year project. We have nothing but the highest praise for Chris and Katie and the way that they have helped us enhance the quality of our lives.”

Frame House - Client Review

“We are thrilled with our kitchen extension - it has completely changed the way we live in our house! Fineline took our initial ideas but suggested so many improvements, which ultimately gave us so much more than we ever hoped for.  It was a pleasure to work with Katie and Chris.  They listened to our wish list but delivered so much more.”

To start the discussions on a potential project, Fineline Architects offer a free initial consultation to meet clients at their property or plot to start to understand their aspirations for the project. This meeting serves as an opportunity not only to meet each other, but also to assess the options and constraints of the project. During this meeting we discuss how the property could reach its full potential and how it could achieve the clients brief.

During the consultation we can advise on the other consultants that would need to be involved on the project, and if there are any further considerations to be aware of.

After this initial meeting, a fee proposal is issued for the project. This sets out the client’s brief as a key reference point to move forwards and breaks down the fees into clear sections. Each stage of works is detailed so clients have a full understanding what to expect by the end of each work stage.
